Baltimore Isle

The best thing about living in Baltimore is that there is a thriving music scene, but the worst thing about it, for me, is that I seem to have outgrown my old music scene days. I feel constant guilt that I am not out experiencing all these bands, but… you know… those darn kids and their bright clothes and disposable incomes…. anyway, probably the best thing I’ve heard lately is this future islands album. samuel herring’s voice is hard to get through at first, but it takes you over and somehow you find the internal logic behind wedging a tom-waits-meets-cowardly-lion voice in between layers of new ordery synth and propulsive bass. the songs might be too nakedly emotional if not for herring’s ability to sell through his delivery.
this clip is particularly good, esp considering the usual quality of youtube live clips. i have yet to see them play and this makes me excited.
